A warm Texas summer day with a soothing, brisk breeze helping keep the beads of sweat from perspiring too much, all while dads from various ages gathered together with their loved ones and little sidekicks to enjoy some quality crafted brews at their local favorite brewery, Shannon Brewing Company. This year Shannon has once again put on another splendid Father’s Day event with live music from a local band, an array of different vendors displaying “dad” inspired gifts and gadgets, delicious food trucks lined up for the taking, and of course, several heart warming, thirst quenching, flavorful brews to sip and savor making for the perfect Father’s Day outing.
The event was thankfully not overwhelming packed and the weather was not scorching, and with so many different brews to try from, it seemed like heaven on earth for but a moment. Some rare brews were released for the event including some tasty bourbon barrel-aged stouts and porters as well as a special barrel-aged sour Irish Red that was very well balanced between the malt, caramel rich flavors of the red and bourbon and the slight astringent quality from the wild bacteria that creates the sour.
Shannon’s year round brews were also available along with a special released double dry-hopped pilsner, a red wine barrel-aged imperial stout, and a lemonade shandy that was perfect for the warmer afternoon temperatures. While the dads and moms spent quality time sipping away and listening to live music, most kids were out playing various games that were spread throughout the taproom and beer garden including corn hole, Foosball table, bow and arrow shooting area and other fun-filled distractions for the overly energetic little people.
Food trucks that attended and provided stomach pleasing delights were Hick’s BBQ, Just Encased, DK’s Twisted Smokers BBQ, and Grille. There were several vendors to really help the dads find the perfect gift for themselves including Gunslinger Nation, Just Grillin’, Cracksalsa, and even a unique little MMA set up in the brewery by Peak Performance BBJ that provided live demos to help encourage people to join and help shape up the beer belly. Other vendors that attended were Anglers Pro Tackle and Outdoors, Simply Done Cupcakes, T Off-Mens Health, Providencia Cigars, and Cinnamon Creek Ranch.
To really help entertain the folks and keep things fun there were a couple contest for the dads attending including a “Dad Bod” contest and Ugly Tie contest with some surprise winners in both categories. The live entertainment was provided by the Phillip Johnson band who played a lot of good, classic-styled music that really help the ambiance of the whole event and made the beer sipping that much better.
If you happened to miss this year’s event make sure to get your tickets next year as this event was tailor made for dads and fun for the whole family (and pets). In the meantime go pay Shannon a visit and tell them the Craft Beer Voyager sent you. They are located at 818 North Main Street, Keller, Texas 76248. Until next time, remember to sip, savor and enjoy. Cheers!
